What is coaching?

Please see the Coaching section of this website for general information on coaching. There are also some great resources in the Links section.

How is coaching different from counselling and therapy?

Counselling and therapy tend to look at the past. The primary focus is on healing and completing the past.

Coaching, on the other hand, is a very forward-looking practice. The emphasis is on creating and manifesting. Although healing is not the primary focus, being creative and in action in your life can create a powerful space for healing to occur.

Both practices are useful in their own rite and in some cases it may work well to work simultaneously with both a cousellor/therapist and a coach.

How is coaching different from consulting?

A consultant is an expert in a given field that provides advice based on their own training, knowledge and experience.

Coaching sees you, the client as creative, intelligent and resourceful. It draws from the belief that the greatest expert on your life is YOU and that all the answers you seek are within you, waiting to be discovered.

Both approaches are useful and complimentary. In addition to offering coaching services I offer consulting on marketing and on the effective uses of technology for promotion and communication.

How long do you recommend working with a coach?

Although benefits may show up after the very first session, it is generally recommended that you commit to at least six months of coaching. This will give us an opportunity to design an alliance that is highly effective and supports you in pursuing the things that are important to you and your life.

Initially many clients find that it's beneficial to have three coaching sessions a month. After working together for a while you may find that it works to have sessions less frequently (e.g. once or twice a month).

Can coaching be done over the phone or over Skype?

Absolutely. In many cases coaching is more effective when done over the phone or over Skype.

Do you work with clients outside of Vancouver?

I am available to work with clients literally anywhere in the world. I can be reached through a local phone number in Vancouver (778.786.3222) and through a toll free number (877.786.3222) everywhere else in Canada and the USA.

For clients outside of Canada and the USA, Skype can be used for either audio or video coaching calls. If you're not familiar with Skype please visit their website for more information.

Do you provide coaching in-person?

Currently I only provide coaching by phone or Skype. I've found coaching by phone and Skype to be highly effective and it's generally more convenient for clients. When I start working with people in the Vancouver area, the initial "Discovery Session" is often in person.
