About Tim Stringer

Coaching. Where have you been all my life?

My first experience of coaching was in early 2005, shortly after picking up my life in Ottawa and moving to Vancouver. I was going through major transitions in many area of my life and having a coach to work with took the experience from being overwhelming to being a playful and creative one. I experienced first-hand the ease and possibilities that a coaching relationship creates.

A short while later I went on to experience coaching in a large group context. I completed the Curriculum for Living offered by Landmark Education and went on to graduate from the Introduction Leaders Program, a demanding six-month course that embodies both individual and group coaching.

Coaching as a Career

The more I experienced the benefits of coaching the more motivated I became to choose coaching as a career. In 2007 I enrolled in the Core Curriculum offered by The Coaches Training Institute (CTI), an internationally recognized and highly acclaimed training organization. I completed the Core Curriculum in March 2008.

My training at CTI took my coaching skills to a new level and have shed new light on my own limitless potential. I'm affectionately called "Tribal Leader" by my peers in my CTI courses and aspire to the powerful yet humble distinction this creates in my life.

The Playful Yogi

I discovered yoga and meditation in 1995, just as it was starting to rise in the mainstream. My passion for this ancient practice inspired me to become a certified teacher in 1999. Since then I have taught well over a thousand yoga classes to literally thousands of students across Canada and my enthusiasm for yoga is stronger than ever. I have a playful, but disciplined approach to teaching and frequently remind my students (and myself) that learning to lighten up is a key step on the road to enlightenment.

I teach Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and have taught at the Rama Lotus Yoga Centre in Ottawa and Yoga West in Vancouver. I have also served as a director for YogaBC (formerly YABC) for four years.

Technically Simple

I've always had a fascination for technology and am intrigued by all the creative possibilities it makes available. I graduated with a Bachelor of Electric Engineering in 1990 and went on to work as everything from a software developer to a product development manager on large projects at Corel Corporation. In the fall of 2003 I founded a company called Technically Simple with a mandate to make technology available to everyone in a friendly and accessible manner. Technically Simple has grown significantly over the years and has a broad client base that includes individuals and small to medium sized businesses and organizations.

Growing Through Cancer

My life took a very unexpected turn in July of 2008 when I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Over the five months that followed I underwent an intensive four rounds of chemotherapy and a major surgery. I’m happy to report that 2008 ended on a very positive note. I received the best Christmas present I could possibly imagine - a clean bill of health!

The roller coaster ride that I underwent during the treatment process was challenging, but through working with my own coach I uncovered valuable opportunities for growth, both as an individual and as a coach, and painted an inspiring vision for the future that I was free to create beyond my present circumstances. I’ll be sharing some of these insights in my Blog and this experience has served as the inspiration for the It's About Time™ workshop , which launches in Vancouver on May 30, 2009. Despite all the hardships, I am grateful for all of the lessons that my bout with cancer has taught me.
